Solid Gold Jewellery
All FSS Jewellery pieces are crafted in solid gold — never plated, never hollow. Here’s what that means for quality, longevity, and the hallmark you’ll find on every piece.
9 carat gold contains 37.5% pure gold mixed with other metals, making it very durable and ideal for everyday wear. 18 carat gold contains 75% pure gold, giving it a richer colour and a slightly softer feel — it is considered the premium standard for fine jewellery. Both are solid gold and will last a lifetime with proper care.
Solid gold is generally very well-tolerated by sensitive skin, particularly 18ct gold which has a higher proportion of pure gold and fewer added metals. If you have a known allergy to nickel, please confirm the alloy composition with us before purchasing.
All FSS Jewellery solid gold pieces carry a UK hallmark, confirmed by independent assay, verifying the metal’s purity. UK law requires that all gold jewellery above a minimum weight must be independently tested and hallmarked before sale.
Solid gold does not tarnish or fade the way gold-plated jewellery can. Over time it may develop a natural patina, which many consider part of its character. Regular gentle cleaning keeps the finish bright. Unlike plated pieces, the colour runs all the way through.
Gold-plated jewellery has a thin layer of gold applied over a base metal, which can wear away over time with regular wear. Solid gold is made from the same gold alloy throughout — it will not wear off, chip, or change colour, making it a far longer-lasting investment.
Yes — solid gold can be resized and repaired by a skilled jeweller, which is one of its key advantages over plated pieces. If you need resizing or a repair after purchase, we recommend visiting a reputable local jeweller. Feel free to contact us for guidance.
Solid gold retains intrinsic value as a precious metal, unlike plated jewellery which has no significant resale value once the plating wears. While we cannot advise on investment matters, gold is historically one of the most stable stores of value.
